Before the first clue, bring the group together and explain: stay in the agreed area, follow the clues in order, and let everyone have a turn. A quick host introduction gives children a shared start instead of sending the fastest guest ahead.

For mixed reading abilities, have an adult read each clue aloud, pair a short written line with a picture, or let children take turns spotting the destination. Do not make reading speed the contest.

One player leads Give the birthday child the map or starting clue and invite the group to help when asked.
Shared turns Rotate three simple roles at each stop: clue reader, map holder, and location spotter. If a player prefers not to read, offer the map or spotting role instead.

If the group gets stuck Wait for a moment, then offer one hint at a time: name the room, point out a feature, or read the clue aloud. If it is still unclear, say the intended place and keep the celebration moving.
If the route is interrupted Gather everyone at the last known stop and resume together. Do not send one child off alone to search for a clue.
